Footprints Across Scotland

Why not make a few of your own!

31st March and 1st April 2007

After waiting such a long time for a decent weekend's weather wouldn't you just know it that two come along together. Not that I'm complaining, I would like to be out and about every weekend. I went across to Shiel bridge with Stephan from work and met up with another work colleague John who had travelled across with his wife Anne. John and Anne stayed at the Kintail lodge hotel while me and Stephan stayed in the relative comfort of the campsite at Morvich. Anne ferried us to the Cluanne Inn early Saturday morning from were we ascended through the mist onto the North glen Shiel ridge. We walked along the ridge until the just before the five sisters (roughly half way along the ridge). From there we dropped down into the Glen to the north and back to the campsite. We all enjoyed a well earned meal and bottle or two of wine at the Jac-O-Bite Restaurant on Saturday night. A pleasant half hour walk back to the campsite under a full moon was just enough time to let dinner go down. Sunday started as Saturday, clear blue skies with very little wind, lovely and warm in the sun shine after a slight frost overnight. After packing the tents me and Stephan drove the short distance to Shiel bridge and climbed Sgurr Mhic Bharraich which stands on the shores of Loch Duich. It was a less strenuous walk than Saturday but still requiring a bit of effort under the warm sun. A nice grassy patch at the summit was an ideal place for lunch and a bit of a laze. All too soon it was time to head down and back to the car, we then returned to the campsite to get a quick shower before heading off back to Aberdeen.
