Footprints Across Scotland
Why not make a few of your own!
30th July to 9th August 2010
10 days exploring Orkney Mainland and Sanday
Taking the Thursday evening ferry to Kirkwall I embarked on my return trip to the Northern Isles.
I decided to start my trip were I had finished off last year.
It’s a relatively short cycle ride from the ferry terminal to Picaquoy campsite and although approaching midnight it was far from being completely dark.
The site was pretty full but I found a suitable spot and quickly had the tent up.
After a quick wash it was time to hit the sack.
I awoke early to a rather grey day but only light winds which made a change from the persistent strong gales that accompanied my previous visit.
After breakfast it was time to pack up and move out.
My intention was to spend the first few days on Mainland Orkney before heading off to explore some of the islands.
I headed out of Kirkwall on the Stromness road along Bay of Firth and into Finstown.
to be continued (completed)!!!
