A cirtcuitous route up onto Lochnagar

Sunday I headed down the royal Deeside road to Ballater and then along to Loch Muick. I took my bike again and cycled along the north shore till I reached the old royal residence at Glas Allt Shiel.

Leaving the bike here I continued up towards Dubh Loch with the impressive crags of Creag an Dubh Loch rising steeply from its shoreline.

Eagles crag opposite has an impressive waterfall descending over its multi-coloured granite.

I followed the stream and waterfalls up hill till I reached the path just below Carn an t-Sagairt Mor which strikes north west and up above the Stuic and Carn a' Choire Bhoidheach with views across Loch nan Eun to Lochnagar.

I then followed the cliffs around from the Stuic and was soon at the top of Lochnagar.

I was pleasantly surprised to find Jim (a friend from Ceroc) at the summit. After a spot of lunch we followed the path back down to Loch Muick passing more waterfalls just above the lodge.

Jim followed the south shore back while I hopped on my bike to ride the north shore path as the rain started to fall. The damp weather and early evening calm had brought out the midges so I wasted no time when back in the car park, throwing every thing in the boot and was soon heading for home.
