Footprints Across Scotland
Why not make a few of your own!

An overdue visit to Glen Clova.
Route Map
I normally manage a visit to Glen Clova quite frequently and I was a little surprised to discover it had been more than three years since my previous visit. I was weighing up options on the drive down but elected to take a look at the lochs on the north side of the Glen. After parking I made my way back up through the hotel car park to pick up a path through the trees and out onto the open hillside.

Glen Clova
I kept to the path on the Westside of the burn for a while before branching off across the heather to take a look at Corrie of Clova.

The Lairds Chamber
I considered the route up The Lairds Chamber to the higher ground but decided to keep to my plan to visit the shores of Loch Brandy and Loch Wharral.

The Snub
So with that in mind I turned in the direction of the Snub.

Corrie of Clova
After regaining the path I followed it down to the shore of the ice covered loch.

Loch Brandy
There were some impressive patterns etched into the ice along the edge of the loch.

Loch Brandy
Returning to the main path I followed the steep nose of the Snub to gain the heights above the loch before following the cliff top around to Green hill.

Corrie of Clova from the Snub
The route continues over to White hill at which point the Goet looked almost within touching distance. A fence leads over to the top but it was banked on the north side by what looked like deep snow, however deciding to follow this line proved a good decision as the snow provided firm footing and eased my way over what can be quite boggy ground.

Heading for Ben Tirran
A style near the top allowed me to cross the fence to the cairn marking the summit. The cold wind only allowed brief stop, I hoped to find a bit of shelter further down the west ridge.

Loch Wharral
I enjoyed a sandwich and a brew in the warm sunshine but a cooling breeze built up after a while to encourage me on my way.

Loch Wharral
I headed for the loch shore with its broken ice flows and waters sitting still below the Craigs of Loch Wharral.

I then worked my way over the open hillside toward Rough Craig before rounding Brown Holm to contour over some rough ground before eventually picking up my outward path above the hotel grounds. It had been a good day enjoyed by a good few walkers, Glen Clova had again delivered a fine walk.
