Footprints Across Scotland

Why not make a few of your own!

25th to 27th May 2007

This weekend Ross and my self headed up to the far north of Scotland to climb Ben Loyal and so complete our Macmillan Corbett challenge.

We made the long drive up to Tongue on Friday afternoon and ended up camping at Melvich as the campsite at Tongue looked a bit unused to say the least. It meant another 25 miles along some single track roads but it turned out to be a good little site. There was also a pub on the door step to supply us with beer and home made food. The weather on Saturday was a bit variable but we managed to escape many of the passing showers and enjoyed some reasonable periods of sunshine. The worst spell of weather was just as we arrived at the summit when we had a mixture of snow and hail but this only lasted 20 minutes before the sun broke though again.

Where's the sunshine gone!

We took our time travelling back on Sunday taking detours past Dunnet head (the most northern point in mainland Britain) and John O Groats. It then took a good five hours driving to make our way south back to Aberdeen.
